The short version
Under-eye hollows can make the face look tired even after a full night’s sleep. As the skin thins and a groove forms beneath the eye, concealer tends to settle into the crease and can make the shadow more noticeable.
“Dark circles” can mean three different concerns: a hollow, pigment, or puffiness. Before treating the area, we’ll identify which one you have.

What's really causing your dark circles
Dark circles usually come from one of three things, and sometimes a mix. A hollow that casts a shadow, pigment in the skin itself, or puffiness from fat pushing forward. Each one needs a different approach, which is why we check first.
A hollow casts a shadow
As under-eye skin loosens and thins, a groove called a tear trough can form, and it shadows the area even in good light.
Thin skin shows what's underneath
Thinner skin lets the blood vessels underneath show through, which reads as a bluish or purple tint.
Pigment and puffiness
Sun and genetics can add brown pigment, while fluid or fat can push the lower lid forward into a bag.

What to expect
What to expect after PRF under the eyes
Expect a day or two of puffiness from the fluid itself. That isn't your result: the change in skin quality shows at four to eight weeks.
Day 0
Puffy, and that’s normal
Fluid under thin skin makes you puffy. Use a cold compress at home.
Days 1 to 7
Bruising clears
Swelling settles and any bruise shows, then yellows and fades. Concealer is fine after 24 hours.
Weeks 4 to 8
Skin quality changes
Collagen forms, so crepe softens and texture smooths. Sessions two and three land here.
Month 3 to 6
Judge, then maintain
We assess the series and take your after photo. Improvement often fades by 6 months, so plan a maintenance session.

Our reasoning
How we decide
We’ll look at the area in natural light, then do three quick checks. We’ll press lightly on your cheek to see whether the shadow lifts (a hollow). We’ll stretch the skin sideways to see whether the color stays (pigment). And we’ll ask you to look up while we check the lower lid (a fat bag).
For a hollow with thin, crepey skin, we’ll usually suggest PRF or PRP under the eyes. A 2025 systematic review of 14 studies found PRF improved texture, wrinkles and crepiness while PRP had stronger evidence for pigment, and that PRF gains “often diminished by 6 months,” per the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. That’s why we plan it as a series, followed by maintenance. Individual results vary.
For pigment on skin that’s in reasonable shape, we’ll look at microneedling with PRP, along with a sunscreen plan, because needling plus PRP reaches brown color without the heat that can make it worse.
A deep hollow with good skin may be better suited to filler. Only a few products are approved for that area, and it’s the one place on the face where we’re most cautious about injecting. A bag is fat, and fat under the eye is treated surgically.
Your questions, answered
Does PRF get rid of bags under the eyes?
No, it doesn't. It improves crepey, thin under-eye skin and mild hollowing. A true bag is orbital fat, and a systematic review of under-eye treatments concluded surgery is best when laxity or fat is the cause. If it's a bag, we'll point you to a surgeon who can help.
How long is the bruising after under-eye PRP?
Plan on a week. Expect puffiness the first day, and bruising on days one to three that fades to yellow by day seven. We'd suggest not booking it the week before an event or photos.
PRP or PRF, which do you use?
Our booking menu lists this as PRP under eyes. PRF is PRP spun slower without an anticoagulant, so it sets into a gel and releases more slowly. You can ask about PRF at your consult, and your provider will recommend the better option for your skin.
Why are my dark circles getting worse with age?
Under-eye skin thins and loosens over time, so the blood vessels underneath show through more and a hollow can deepen into a shadow. Sun exposure can add pigment on top. We'll check which of these is driving yours before suggesting a treatment.
Do eye creams help dark circles?
A cream can help a little with dryness and, with ingredients like retinol or vitamin C, with mild pigment over time. It won't fill a hollow or remove a bag, because those are about volume and fat, not the surface of the skin.
