Firmer skin, without a facelift
Morpheus8 is radiofrequency microneedling from InMode for mild to moderate jawline laxity, early jowls, crepey or lax skin on the neck, and acne scars. Fine needles deliver heat beneath the surface, and the skin tightens and smooths over about three months, with a few days of redness rather than weeks of recovery.

What to expect
What the appointment is like
Treatment day runs 60 to 90 minutes for the face, longer with the neck, and most of that time is numbing. A compounded numbing cream sits for about an hour, then the handpiece stamps a grid across each area, roughly 500 passes for a full face. You’ll feel pressure and warmth as we adjust depth and energy from forehead to jaw to neck.
Consult
We’ll assess your skin, discuss what you’d like to change, and map out your session count and spacing. You’ll leave with a written plan.
Numbing
A compounded numbing cream sits on your skin for about an hour. This is the longest part of the visit, so bring something to listen to.

Before you leave
We’ll apply a calming balm and sunscreen, give you written aftercare, and book your next date. You can drive yourself home.
Results
A predictable timeline
You may see some tightening in the first few weeks as swelling resolves, but the main change takes longer. Collagen keeps remodeling for about three months after each session. That’s the best time to judge your result. Results aren’t permanent, so most people do one maintenance session a year.
Day 0
Red and swollen
Red and swollen with grid marks. Drive home and rest. It looks like a sunburn with a faint pattern.
Days 1 to 3
Fine scabs form
Redness fades to pink, and fine scabs form and itch. Most people are back to work by day 2 or 3.
Weeks 4 to 8
Collagen builds
Skin feels tight, then smooths. Time for your next session if you’re doing a series.
Month 3 to Year 1
Judge, then maintain
Jawline, neck, and scars are at their best after the final session. One maintenance session a year helps hold the change.
What it costs
Clear pricing, planned by the visit
Your cost depends on a few things: face, neck, or both, how many sessions, which tips and how many passes each area takes, and whether you add anything else in the same visit. A single session is a real option for mild laxity; we offer a series of three because the published protocols use three sessions four to eight weeks apart.

Microneedling with PRP is the same idea without the heat: needles, plus your own platelets applied to the open channels. It provides little tightening, but you get less downtime, no burn or fat-loss risk, and better evidence for acne scars. If texture or acne scarring is your main concern, this is usually the better place to start.
Forma is radiofrequency without needles. It heats the skin from the surface for half an hour with no downtime, and the effect is mild and gradual over a series. It can be a step before Morpheus8, or something you can do between series to help hold a result.
If you’d like more detail on the first comparison, see Morpheus8 vs microneedling: which one you actually need. If the fullness under your chin is fat rather than skin, it’s worth reading Kybella vs CoolSculpting before you book anything here.
Is it right for me?
Who it’s for, and who it isn’t
Morpheus8 is a good match for adults with mild to moderate laxity or texture concerns who can plan for a few days of sunburn-like redness, people in their 40s or 50s with early jowls or crepey neck skin, and anyone with settled acne scarring. Because radiofrequency doesn’t target pigment, it can be used on darker skin with adjusted settings.
A good fit for
- Mild to moderate jawline or neck laxity
- Early jowls or crepey neck skin
- Settled rolling or boxcar acne scars
- All skin tones, with energy adjusted for types V and VI
Not recommended
- Tissue that has already dropped (a lift is surgical)
- Fat under the chin, or deep folds that need filler
- An active infection, a history of keloids, or uncontrolled diabetes
- During pregnancy or breastfeeding
The FDA calls RF microneedling a medical procedure and has cited reports of burns, scarring, and fat loss clustered around aggressive settings. We keep depth and energy conservative over the thin-fat cheeks and temples.
In detail
What it treats
Most people who ask us about Morpheus8 are concerned with the jawline and neck rather than pores.
Morpheus8 does its best work on mild to moderate jawline laxity, a shadow beside the mouth, and crepey or lax skin on the neck. The change is visible without being dramatic.
It can also soften more established jowls, neck laxity, and lines above the upper lip, though it can’t lift tissue that has fully descended.
When the concern is texture, enlarged pores, or early acne scarring, microneedling with PRP is often the better first step, at lower cost and with less downtime. Morpheus8 makes sense when the scarring is deep or the skin has started to loosen.
Scars are their own category. Rolling and boxcar acne scars respond well at any age. Deep ice-pick scars typically improve less.
How it works
The device is the InMode Morpheus8, a fractional radiofrequency microneedling applicator. A grid of insulated, gold-coated needles enters the skin to a depth we set, anywhere from 0.5 to 4 mm on the face, and releases radiofrequency energy from the tips. The heat lands in the dermis while the surface is largely spared, per Hendricks and Farhang. It contracts tissue on the day and starts a healing response that builds new collagen and elastin over months.
Here’s what the published research shows. A 2026 systematic review of 20 studies and 558 participants found “significant improvements in skin texture and tightening,” with side effects “predominantly mild and transient,” per Kumar and colleagues, though the authors work for a competing device maker. For acne scars, a randomized split-face trial found it matched fractional CO2 laser after three sessions, with shorter redness and fewer pigment problems, per the trial.
Morpheus8 is FDA-cleared, not FDA-approved. The clearance covers “coagulation/contraction of soft tissue,” per the FDA’s July 2024 letter. It is not cleared for fat reduction, and claims of “fat remodeling” come from marketing, not the clearance. The FDA also calls radiofrequency microneedling “a medical procedure, not a cosmetic treatment,” per its October 2025 safety communication. That’s why your provider will review your candidacy, treatment plan, expected results, and recovery with you before treatment.
Afterwards
Downtime and aftercare
The most common question is when you can return to work. Here’s what to expect day by day.
Day 0: you’ll leave red, warm, and a little swollen, with a visible grid of needle marks. It looks similar to a sunburn with a faint pattern, which is expected. Most people plan a quiet evening at home.
Day 1: still red, but less swollen. Tiny scabs form at the needle sites and the skin may itch. You’ll still look noticeably sunburned, so many people work from home or take the day off.
Days 2 to 3: the redness fades to pink and the scabs turn fine and sandy. The skin looks mildly sun-flushed rather than treated, and most people are back at work by now, per patient reports on RealSelf.
Days 3 to 7: the scabs slough off and the skin feels dry and tight. Moisturize generously during this stage.
While you heal, wear sunscreen every morning, skip makeup until the surface has closed, avoid retinoids and acids for about a week, avoid hot yoga, pools, and hot tubs while there are open channels, and don’t pick at the scabs. Treatment around the eyes bruises more, so plan an extra day or two if we’re treating your lids.
Why here
Why Arlington Heights
We’re on the east side of Arlington Heights Road, about 200 yards south of Dundee Road (Route 68), a block and a half south of Buffalo Grove High School, on the Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove border. Look for the single-story brown brick building and Suite C. There are several similar complexes on this stretch, so it helps to double-check the address before you park. The lot is free and right outside the door, with no meters and no garage, which makes leaving after treatment easy. Coming from Prospect Heights, Wheeling, or Mount Prospect? We put together directions from your side of town.
Fall and winter are the best seasons to start Morpheus8, because healing skin needs protection from the sun and sun exposure is lower. Forced-air heat dries the skin in winter, so plan on extra moisturizer while you heal. A series started in January is settled by May. Summer, when sun exposure is highest, is better for maintenance than for starting a series. Every session at our Arlington Heights office is done by our medical esthetician.
Questions
Common questions, answered
Morpheus8 is a radiofrequency microneedling device made by InMode. Fine insulated needles enter the skin to a set depth and release heat from their tips, which contracts tissue on the day and builds collagen over about three months. It treats jowls, neck laxity, texture, pores, and acne scars. It is FDA-cleared, not FDA-approved.
The areas treated (face, neck, or both), one session versus a series of three, the tips and passes each area needs, and any add-on in the same visit. Every treatment starts with a consultation and a written plan, your deposit comes off your treatment, and Affirm, Afterpay, and Klarna are available if you’d like to spread out the cost.
With numbing cream on for about an hour, most people feel pressure and heat with each stamp rather than sharp pain. Published reviews call it mild to moderate and well tolerated. Some people still find the jaw and neck painful. If that’s the case for you, let us know and we’ll slow down or lower the energy.
There are no long-term randomized studies, so nobody can give you a verified number. The collagen you build is yours, but your skin keeps aging, so the improvement fades gradually. Most clinics, including ours, suggest one maintenance session a year after a series. Individual results vary.
It’s worth it for mild to moderate laxity (early jowls, a softening jawline, crepey neck skin) or settled acne scarring, if you can accept two to five days of redness per session. It’s usually not the best choice if texture is your main concern, or if your skin has significantly descended, in which case surgery is the better option.
Yes, with the settings adjusted. Radiofrequency doesn’t target pigment, so Morpheus8 is one of the safer energy treatments for skin of color. Published guidance is to lower superficial energy in Fitzpatrick types V and VI, and the FDA clearance limits the highest energy levels to skin types I through IV.
At Skinovatio Arlington Heights, Morpheus8 is performed by our medical esthetician in Suite C at 3375 N Arlington Heights Rd, just south of Dundee Road. The person you meet at the consult is the person who treats you. We’re open Monday through Friday, 10 to 6, with free parking right outside.
We don’t offer Ultherapy, so we can’t compare them from firsthand experience. Ultherapy is an ultrasound device with no needles, so there’s no grid of marks and no scabbing. Morpheus8 puts radiofrequency heat exactly where the needle goes, which is why it also treats texture and scars. You’re welcome to bring any quote to your consult, and we’ll talk it through with you.
You can, but you’ll look sunburned, with a faint grid pattern and some swelling. Most people who work face to face take the next day off or work from home, then go back on day 2 or 3 when the redness has faded to pink. We’d suggest booking a week ahead of any photos.
We’d suggest waiting for fall, or starting in January. Healing skin needs sun avoidance for several weeks, which is harder in summer, when sun exposure is highest. A series started in October is done by the new year, and one started in January is settled by May.
It isn’t reversible, but it isn’t dramatic in one session either. Results build over weeks, and we work in a series specifically so you can stop after one if it’s not for you.
